16-Layers 400GB Optical Disc from Pioneer
Pioneer launched again its the optical disc which is known as the super multi-layer read-only. It has 16 layers features which are separated in a disc side. The storage capacity is 25GB in every layer. Therefore, the total capacity is up to 400GB. Pioneer announced the Blu-ray Disc in the IT Month event in Taipei.
Based on High Fidelity Taiwan from Pioneer, this technology is based on Blu-ray Disc with reflective layer material. The specifications of the Pick-Up Head disc are same with BD blank disc. Consequently, Pioneer disc is also can be read by using BD player.
To development of this technology is done from 2008 to 2010. Meanwhile, the rewritable multi-layer discs will be developed in 2010 till 2012, and the 1,000GB disc will appear in 2013.
The followings are the specifications of this technology:
a. There are two kinds of capacity: 500GB for 30 layers and 400GB for 16 layers
b. Has dielectric reflective layers material
c. Offers 405nm and 0.85 PU H
d. Has 14&10nm track pitch
